Royal Company of Archers Silver Arrow Shoot

On Saturday the pipe band were invited to lead the procession of the Royal Company of Archers through Musselburgh after the Annual Silver Arrow Shoot at Musselburgh Racecourse.

The contest for what is reputed to be the oldest sporting trophy in the world still competed for annually was held in Musselburgh on the 16th of May. First recorded details of the competition date from 1603, and actually pre-date the formation of the Royal Company of Archers itself.

Since 1676, however, the annual competition has been restricted to members of the Royal Company.

This year’s event was particularly special as it marked 350 years since the Company’s formation.
