Our novice and juvenile band enjoyed their first band competition of the season at the George Watson’s Invitational Solo and Band Competition on Sunday the 3rd March 2024. It was an early start for some with the junior solo competitions starting at 9am. A breakdown of results for each band is below.
NOVICE BAND
Our novice band finished 7th overall with a 6th place for the drummers. It was a good showing from a very young band. For some of the members it was their first ever contest. For some others it was their first venture into the novice band after graduating from the development band. The future is bright for sure for this team and we look forward to seeing the improvements as we go.
JUVENILE BAND
The juvenile band came 3rd overall with a first place in drumming. There are a lot of the band members who have recently joined the juvenile band after graduating from the novice band. Feedback was mostly positive and the performance was well received by a keen audience. The first place for the drum corps was a highlight as the potential in the team is huge. It is a team with a lot of new members who have worked hard to get to this stage and deserve the win. Onwards and upwards for the juvenile band.
SOLO PIPING AND DRUMMING
We had pipers and drummers taking part in the solo competitions. We had six pipers and two drummers take part with mixed results. It was great see our band members take part and we are keen for them continue this, with hopefully more taking the plunge in future competitions. A breakdown of prize winners from our bands are below.
EVENT 1A – 15 YEARS AND UNDER PIPING

SUMMARY
It was a great day overall with some positive results all round. It was great to see parents of new band members along for the day and learning from the experienced parents on the world of pipe band craft as a supporter. We look forward to our next competition which will be the Scottish School Pipe Band Championships on Sunday the 10th of March at the William McIlvanney Campus in Kilmarnock. We hope to see you there.
