Born in Newcastle, England, Ciaren started learning the pipes at the early age of 4. Ciaren was taught the basics right through to competitive repertoire by his father, Gordon Ross.

Now living in Glasgow, Ciaren is now In his 4th year of university, studying the Highland Bagpipes in the Scottish Traditional Degree where he is focussing on teaching.
Currently, Ciaren is playing for the grade 1 pipe band, Shotts and Dykehead and has done for the past 4 years. Before this, he competed with Boghall and Bathgate Juvenile pipe band before competing his first season in 2014 with the Boghall grade 1 band.
Ciaren is an active competitor in the solo circuit, competing in both B grade for light music and Piobaireachd.
